John and I have lived in Devon for 25 years. We found Long Furlong while "on holiday" nearby and decided to sell up our home in Lymington, Hampshire and bring our two young daughters to Hartland.
We commenced the project with six cottages in 1985 and because we had two young children we were able to build them with young children in mind. We decided that rather than more obvious names such as flower names etc. we would call them after Beatrix Potter characters hence MrMcGregors farmhouse, Peter Rabbit and friends.
Anyone who has chosen to follow this path will know that this is not a business which "looks after itself". We are constantly building, painting, replacing and updating to keep up with modern trends and to satisfy the demands of both young families and mature individuals alike.
During 2007/8 we undertook the challenge of constructing four new build cottages and doubling the leisure building and extending two of our smaller cottages in a style sympathetic to the existing Grade 11 listed buildings. We can now offer twelve beautiful cottages with excellent indoor and outdoor facilities in a wonderful part of the country close to a variety of beaches and leisure activities.
Work continues! This winter we are continuing a programme of upgrading and modernising several bathrooms.
After completing the huge task of updating bathrooms and kitchens we were delighted to receive a 5 star Gold award for all of our properties.
Due to the success of our outside swimspa we have added another hot tub this year 2010 which is already proving to be a huge hit.
